Anne Vallette - GSIL

Anne Vallette

2nd Vice Chair

What inspired you or brought you to your position on the board of GSIL?

I’ve worked with GSIL as a vendor partner since 2013, and over the years I’ve had a front-row seat to the organization’s unwavering commitment to empowering people with disabilities to live independently and with dignity. GSIL doesn’t just talk about self-advocacy and independence—it lives those values every day. After more than a decade of partnership, joining the board felt like a natural next step to give back in a more meaningful way to a mission I truly believe in.

How does GSIL’s mission align with your personal or professional values?

GSIL’s mission aligns closely with my core belief that everyone deserves respect, access, and the ability to make their own choices. Both personally and professionally, I value inclusion, independence, and advocacy. GSIL’s work actively removes barriers and amplifies the voices of people with disabilities, which mirrors the principles that guide my work and community involvement.

What unique perspective or experience do you bring to the board?

As a long-time benefits consultant and now GSIL’s Professional Development Board Chair, I bring a blend of strategic, operational, and people-focused experience. I’m accustomed to navigating complex systems while keeping individuals at the center of decisions. I value collaboration, practical problem-solving, and long-term sustainability, and I strive to approach board discussions with both empathy and a results-driven mindset.

What has been the most rewarding part of your involvement with GSIL so far?

The most rewarding part has been seeing the tangible impact GSIL has on people’s lives. Knowing that the work we do as a board helps strengthen programs, support staff, and expand opportunities for individuals with disabilities makes every meeting and every initiative incredibly worthwhile.

Is there a particular program or initiative at GSIL that you’re especially passionate about?

I’m especially passionate about GSIL’s programs focused on independent living skills and self-advocacy. These initiatives build confidence, promote choice, and help individuals live more independently—outcomes that have a lasting and meaningful impact.

What do you wish more people understood about the challenges and strengths of people with disabilities?

I wish more people understood that while systemic barriers exist, people with disabilities bring incredible resilience, creativity, and perspective. With the right supports and opportunities, individuals don’t just succeed—they thrive and strengthen our communities in powerful ways.

Outside of your work with GSIL, what causes or interests are important to you?

Outside of GSIL, I’m deeply committed to community involvement and causes that promote inclusion, accessibility, education, and equity. I enjoy supporting initiatives that bring people together and create positive, lasting community impact.

What advice would you give to someone considering joining a nonprofit board for the first time?

Choose a mission you genuinely care about, ask questions, and be open to learning. Board service is most rewarding when you’re engaged, collaborative, and willing to contribute both your skills and your perspective.
