Thomas Jimino
Eight years ago, Thomas began his life with T12-level complete paraplegia. Despite this life-altering change, Thomas has dedicated himself to overcoming isolation and loneliness by seeking connections and building a fulfilling life. This spring, he’s selling his 27-acre organic farm to embrace a new chapter as a Van Lifer, driven by his craving for new experiences. Traveling in his adaptive van, Thomas has already explored the New Mexico and Colorado Rocky Mountains, camping solo for 30 days and covering 7,500 miles!
As a peer mentor through United Spinal, Thomas educates and supports individuals with new spinal cord injuries. He’s passionate about mitigating depression and promoting self-advocacy, especially within a healthcare system that often falls short. From growing his own food to maintaining his property and even venturing into the woods on his zero-turn mower, Thomas has found ways to adapt and thrive. His journey also includes being a proud father of two sons and actively participating in peer mentorship and events like the annual GSIL Hoops on Wheels wheelchair basketball fundraiser.
Looking ahead,Thomas dreams of owning a small piece of land, building an accessible home, and creating a community for disabled RVers. He plans to use his van and lifestyle to make himself available to spinal cord injury hospitals and rehab facilities across North America. He aims to inspire, motivate, and provide hope to patients, showing them what’s possible and being a friend in their journey. Thomas breaks barriers every day, finding joy, purpose, and connection while helping others do the same!
